As Vice President of Clinical Research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Kristi Stiffler (she, her, hers) oversees the operations that support the Fred Hutch and Fred Hutch/Seattle Children’s/University of Washington Cancer Consortium clinical research enterprise. In collaboration with the partner institutions’ executive leaders, she sets and implements inter-institutional policies, operating models, and oversight bodies to ensure the efficient and compliant conduct of clinical trials. She is responsible for implementing and maintaining the systems and operations that support the day-today management of clinical trials including the Consortium’s Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) and Program Office.
Ms. Stiffler has served in Consortium clinical research leadership roles for nine years, including associate vice president and director of clinical research support. Prior to her most recent positions, she was the associate administrator for the Fred Hutch Clinical Research Division where she managed the fiscal and administrative operations for the scientific division. She also has experience working at the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) in Kampala, Uganda where she helped implement and manage the first UCI-based Fred Hutch clinical research and training program.
Her clinical research career began as a research coordinator for bone marrow transplant trials and was a natural evolution from her work in science education and time spent in a cancer immunology lab as an undergraduate. Ms. Stiffler earned a bachelor’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Arizona and later earned a master’s in public health from the University of Washington.
