Tia Wheatley, DNP, RN, AOCNS, BMTCN, EBP-C, has a decade of hematology/oncology and stem cell transplant experience, both as a staff nurse and clinical nurse specialist. She is the clinical nurse specialist for the Hematology/Oncology & Cellular Therapies Program at UCLA Health in Los Angeles, and an adjunct assistant professor for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at UCLA School of Nursing.
As an advanced practice nurse, Dr. Wheatley’s focus is on improving patient outcomes and ensuring nursing care aligns with up-to-date evidence. She provides expert clinical consultation and informs the interdisciplinary team about new research, practice, innovations, and procedures in hematology/oncology and cellular therapy.
Dr. Wheatley graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2011 from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. In 2017, she received her DNP degree with a clinical focus in hematology/oncology and stem cell transplant from the University of Kentucky, where her capstone project focused on comprehensive patient and caregiver education for prospective stem cell transplant recipients. In 2019, she received her Evidence-Based Practice certificate (EBP-C) from the Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare, which demonstrates her expertise and passion for evidence-based oncology care and quality outcomes. She is currently enrolled in a post master’s acute care nurse practitioner certificate program at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Wheatley has been a member of Oncology Nursing Society since 2013, serving as a peer reviewer for CJON, book chapter co-author for several ONS publications, a disseminator of best practices in hematology/oncology and stem cell transplant through abstract and podium presentations at several ONS Congress meetings. She is a member of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS).
