Yi L. Hwa, DNP, APRN, CNP, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine & Sciences in Rochester, Minnesota, Program Director of the Mayo Clinic Hematology/Oncology NP/PA Fellowship, and a practicing Nurse Practitioner in the Division of Hematology at Mayo Clinic Cancer Center.

Dr. Hwa received her Master of Science in Nursing from Minnesota State University and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Minnesota. She has over 27 years of experience in clinical practice.

Dr. Hwa's clinical and research interests focus on hematologic malignancies, particularly multiple myeloma, amyloidosis, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. She has authored and co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, including first-authorship publications in Blood, Leukemia, American Journal of Hematology, European Journal of Hematology, and Journal of Oncology Practice. She has presented her research findings at national and international conventions, including the annual meetings for the American Society of Hematology and the International Society of Amyloidosis. She also has been selected twice (from thousands of worldwide scholars) by the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) to film educational, web-based interviews to present her research data.

Dr. Hwa holds professional memberships with several organizations, including the Advanced Practitioner Society for Hematology and Oncology (APSHO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the American Society of Hematology (ASH). She serves on the Board of Directors, the Communication Committee, and the Award & Recognition Committee of APSHO. She is a member of the ASCO Membership Advisory Committee, the ASCO eLearning Question Writing Panel, NCCN Educational Program Advisory Committee, International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) Nurse Leadership Board, and Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) Immunotherapy Guideline Expert Panel for Multiple Myeloma. Notably, she was selected to participate in ASH's Medical Educators Institute (MEI) as the first non-physician clinician and educator.
