Stephen J. Schuster, MD, is the Robert and Margarita Louis-Dreyfus Professor in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and Lymphoma Clinical Care in Research at University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He is the Director of the Lymphoma Program and Lymphoma Translational Research at Penn Medicine.
Dr. Schuster earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He completed his residency and fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital. He is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, and hematology.
Dr. Schuster works on a multidisciplinary team to care for lymphoma patients. His research is focused on the development and application of novel immunotherapies for B-cell lymphomas and CLL, including autologous tumor-derived vaccines, autologous co-stimulated T-cells, radioimmunotherapy, monoclonal antibody therapy, and adoptive immunotherapy using chimeric antigen receptor modified T-cells.
Dr. Schuster has over 150 publications, and has received numerous awards for outstanding teaching and research. He has been recognized by America’s Top Doctors, Best Doctors in America, and Philadelphia magazine’s annual Top Docs issues.
Dr. Schuster is actively involved in several groups, including the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Association for Cancer Research, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. He is a member of the AACR Hematologic Malignancies Research Grants Scientific Review Committee.
Dr. Schuster currently serves as a member of the NCCN CLL/SLL/Hairy Cell Leukemia Panel.
