Robin Zon, MD, is a medical oncologist and Past-President of Michiana Hematology Oncology.
Prior to medical school, Dr. Zon worked as a pharmaceutical research investigator and manager of medical diagnostic product research and development. She earned her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed a residency at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Care Center in Indianapolis. She finished her postdoctoral training with a fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at Indiana University Cancer Center.
Since then, Dr. Zon has served in many different capacities. She previously served as Medical Director of Oncology Research at Memorial Hospital and then as Principal Investigator for 10 years with the Northern Indiana Cancer Research Consortium, the only National Cancer Institute–designated Community Cancer Oncology Program in Indiana. She subsequently joined Michiana Hematology Oncology, PC and was later elected President of the practice.
Dr. Zon has had a long career in oncology intersecting with all aspects of the field, including research, policy, advocacy, and patient care. Over the past 30 years, she has witnessed major changes in oncology care. She is often called upon by the Institute of Medicine and the National Cancer Institute to offer guidance and share her expertise.
Dr. Zon volunteers as a leader for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and previously served on the ASCO Board of Directors for several years. She also chaired several ASCO committees, including the Government Relations Committee Clinical Practice Committee. She also previously served as Vice-Chair of the Hoosier Cancer Research Group and was a member of the Board of Directors for RiverBend Cancer Services and the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
Among her accomplishments, Dr. Zon is a past-recipient of the ASCO Distinguished Achievement Award for her significant contributions to research, clinical care, and advocacy on behalf of patients living with cancer and their cancer care teams worldwide. She also was recognized by ASCO with the Advocate of the Year Award for her efforts in patient advocacy that successfully raised public awareness and led to legislative and financial support in oncology care.
