Reid M. Ness MD, MPH

Reid M. Ness, MD, MPH, is Associate Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a member of the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC) Cancer Epidemiology Research Program.

Dr. Ness earned his medical degree and Master’s in Public Health in health education from Indiana University. He completed an internship and residency at Duke University Health System and a fellowship at Indiana University Medical Center.

Dr. Ness specializes in gastroenterology and works as part of a multidisciplinary team in the VICC Gastroenterology Clinic and Digestive Disease Center. His research interests focus on quality improvement in the provision of colorectal cancer preventative services. He is actively engaged as a co-investigator for several projects in colorectal cancer examining a variety of factors, including predictors of disease, health policy, and racial disparities in cancer outcomes. He also served as the Principal Investigator on a pilot project entitled the “Nashville Colorectal Health Study,” which gathered data related to colonoscopies, specifically disease predictors, cognitive and emotional outcomes, and micro-costing.

Dr. Ness is Chair of the NCCN Colorectal Cancer Screening Panel and serves on the editorial board for JNCCN—Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
