Nicholas J. Short, MD, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Leukemia at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Short earned his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine. He subsequently completed an internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, followed by a hematology/oncology fellowship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Short is a clinical and translational investigator with a particular interest in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). As Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator for more than a dozen Phase I and II clinical trials, his research interests also include identifying novel methods to detect minimal/measurable residual disease for acute leukemias. For his accomplishments in the field of leukemia research, Dr. Short has received a number of awards, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)Young Investigator Award, the MD Anderson Leukemia SPORE Career Enhancement Award, the National Cancer Institute K12 Paul Calabresi Career Development Award, and the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Junior Faculty Scholar Award in Clinical Research.

As a leading expert in hematologic malignancies, Dr. Short has authored over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has presented numerous abstracts at national and international conferences. He also is a member of several professional organizations, including the Harris County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the European Hematology Association, the Society of Hematologic Oncology, ASCO, and ASH.
