Neil P. Shah MD, PhD

Neil P. Shah, MD, PhD, is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco (USCF) School of Medicine, where he also holds the Edward S. Ageno Distinguished Professorship in Hematology/Oncology. Additionally, Dr. Shah serves as Program Leader of the Hematopoietic Malignancies Program at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Director of the UCSF Molecular Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Shah received his doctorate of philosophy in microbiology and molecular genetics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He earned his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine, where he subsequently completed an internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology and oncology.

Dr. Shah’s research is focused on identifying and overriding molecular mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapeutics in myeloproliferative disorders and hematopoietic malignancies such as chronic myeloid leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia. He has served as Principal Investigator (PI) or co-PI for a number of clinical trials and is author or co-author of more than 95 scientific journal articles and 5 book chapters.

Dr. Shah holds research grants from the National Cancer Institute and is a past-

recipient of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Scholar in Clinical Research Award and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Clinical Scientist Development Award.

Dr. Shah is Chair of the NCCN Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Panel and serves on the panel’s Value Pathways Task Force.
