Mark H. Sawyer MD

Mark H. Sawyer, MD, is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at University of California and Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego. He also serves as Program Director of the UCSD/RCHSD Pediatric Residency Program.

Dr. Sawyer earned his medical degree from University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed a residency in pediatrics at UC San Diego and a fellowship at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Sawyer is board-certified in pediatric infectious diseases.

In his current roles, Dr. Sawyer dedicates his time to clinical care, the residency program, working with public health on the delivery of vaccines, and national vaccine policy. He recently was appointed to the Food and Drug Administration’s Vaccine and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, which continues to review COVID-19 vaccines. Additionally, he is among 11 experts selected for the state of California’s COVID-19 Scientific Safety Review Workgroup.

Dr. Sawyer is the Medical Director of the UC San Diego Immunization Partnership. He also serves as Associate Editor for the American Academy of Pediatrics’ “Red Book,” which contains the Academy’s 2021 report on the Committee on Infectious Diseases.
