Mark R. Litzow, MD, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he also serves as a Consultant in the Section of Palliative Care and as the Leader of the Acute Leukemia Group. He previously served as Director of Mayo Clinic's Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program for 17 years and remains an active member of the BMT Program.

Dr. Litzow received his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, medical oncology, and hospice & palliative Medicine.

Dr. Litzow specializes in the treatment of acute leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, and myeloproliferative disorders. His research interests include clinical trials for acute and chronic leukemia, including blood and marrow transplantation and supportive care. He is a past-recipient of RO1 funding from the National Institutes of Health for use of autologous dendritic cell therapy for chronic myeloid leukemia. Additionally, he has authored more than 570 manuscripts and multiple book chapters. His work has contributed to improvements in outcomes for patients with acute leukemia and chronic myeloid disorders and to improved survival of patients after blood and marrow transplantation.

Dr. Litzow is Chair of the Leukemia Committee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group-American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ECOG-ACRIN). He completed two terms as Vice-Chair for North America for the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Registry (CIBMTR) and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Acute Leukemia Working Committee of the CIBMTR. Dr. Litzow was a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and chaired the FACT Technology Committee. He also completed an 8-year term as Chair of the Committee on Education for the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

Dr. Litzow is also a member of the NCCN Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Panel.
