Jennifer Schmitz, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, is an instructor in the College of Nursing (CON) at University of Nebraska Medical Center.

She received a BA in journalism from Creighton University in 2001, her BSN from Creighton University in 2007, and her MSN from UNMC in 2013 and is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). She has 10 years of experience as a nurse practitioner and most recently joined the faculty in the CON at UNMC in 2022 and primarily teaches in the FNP program. She is also pursuing her passion for cancer survivorship within her role as faculty.

Jennifer was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in 2017, completed 3 years of intense cancer treatments, and is now thriving. She hopes to bring together her experience as a survivor and also as a medical professional, to offer first-hand experience of what it’s like to deal with cancer treatment, as well as the long-term effects.
