Ella A. Kazerooni MD, MS

Ella A. Kazerooni, MD, MS, is a Professor of Radiology and Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan and serves as the Associate Chief Clinical Officer for the Diagnostic and Clinical Information Oversight Team within the University of Michigan Medical Group (UMMG).

Dr. Kazerooni earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan, where she also completed a diagnostic radiology residency. She subsequently completed a fellowship in thoracic imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. She also has a master's degree in clinical research design and statistical analysis from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.

Dr. Kazerooni's research focuses on the development and evaluation of advanced imaging technologies as applied to diseases of the cardiothoracic organs. This includes evaluating the technologies at several levels, from safety to validity and reliability, reader agreement, and impact on medical decision making.

Dr. Kazerooni has served many roles in organized radiology, including president of the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Society of Thoracic Radiology, the Association of University Radiologist and the Radiology Alliance for Health Services Research in Radiology, a member of the American College of Radiology's Board of Chancellors and Executive Committee and Trustee of the American Board of Radiology. She is the inaugural chair of the American Cancer Society's Lung Cancer Screening Roundtable, dedicated to creating lung cancer survivors through early detection and screening, improvements and access to modern diagnostics and treatments.

Dr. Kazerooni is a frequently invited guest speaker at academic institutions and national/international meetings with expertise in lung cancer screening, and both interstitial and obstructive lung diseases is sought after by professional organizations developing multispecialty guidelines in radiology, pulmonary medicine and cardiovascular diseases with organizations such as the American College of Radiology (ACR), the American College of Cardiology Foundation and the National Quality Foundation. She currently is the Executive Sponsor of lung cancer screening activities of the ACR, where she also chairs the lung cancer screening registry and the Lung-RADS committee.

Dr. Kazerooni is Vice-Chair and Imaging Reviewer for the NCCN Lung Cancer Screening Panel. She also is a member of the NCCN Imaging Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) Resource Committee.
