Craig M. Horbinski MD, PhD
Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University
Craig M. Horbinski, MD, PhD, is a tenured Professor of Pathology and Neurological Surgery at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. He serves as Director of the Neuropathology Division at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Nervous System Tumor Bank within the Malnati Brain Tumor Institute, and the Pathology Core Facility within the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr. Horbinski earned his MD and PhD degrees from the State University of New York (SUNY). His PhD in developmental neuroscience fostered his deep appreciation for the complexities of the nervous system and helped him develop an aptitude for cell- and tissue-based microscopy. During his anatomic pathology residency and neuropathology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Horbinski became fascinated by brain tumors and how molecular diagnostics could greatly enhance patient care.
On a clinical level, Dr. Horbinski oversees the use of molecular diagnostics in brain tumors. His NIH-funded research focuses on how mutant IDH1 affects glioma biology and the tumor microenvironment, and he is the Biospecimen Core Leader on a Northwestern P50 NCI brain tumor SPORE.
Dr. Horbinski is a member of the NCCN Central Nervous System Cancers Panel.
