Andrea V. Barrio, MD, is an Associate Attending Surgeon and breast surgical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Dr. Barrio received her medical degree from University of California at Los Angeles. She completed a residency in general surgery at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and a fellowship in breast surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Barrio's research has focused on reducing how often lymphedema occurs by finding ways of removing fewer underarm lymph nodes, particularly for women who have chemotherapy before surgery. She is also studying racial disparities in lymphedema development, focusing on differential inflammatory responses to lymphatic injury.
