Aaron T. Gerds, MD, MS, is Associate Professor in Medicine and Deputy Director for Clinical Research at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. He is Medical Director of the Clinical Research Office at Case Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Gerds earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, where he subsequently completed an internal medicine residency. During his residency, Dr. Gerds served as Chief Resident and pursued a master’s degree in clinical research methods and epidemiology. Dr. Gerds then completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Washington/Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, during which time he received a New Investigator Award from the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

Dr. Gerds specializes in the treatment of patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) such as polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, myelofibrosis, as well as other myeloid neoplasia. He serves as the Principal Investigator for a number of clinical trials for the treatment of MPNs and is focused on developing novel therapies for these patients.

Dr. Gerds is an active member of the American Society of Hematology and has participated in its Advocacy Leadership Institute and Clinical Research Training Institute. He was an editor for the 7th edition of the ASH Self-Assessment Program, and currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of ASH Clinical News. He also serves as Chair of the NCCN Myeloproliferative Neoplasms Panel and is an editorial board member for JNCCN-Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
